Barbara J. Ison

This scholarship was created in memory of James Paul Ison, Jr. a 1994 MSU nursing graduate.
James Paul Ison, Jr. joined the U.S. Navy in 1987, serving three years as a Naval Corpsman. After
his service, he returned to Morehead State University and studied nursing and business. He
graduated in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. James Paul was a trauma nurse at Lee
Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers, FL. He worked 20 years in trauma and intensive care before his
untimely death from an acute gastric problem at the age of 50.

The Ison family has a long and proud connection with Morehead State University. James Paul’s
great-grandfather served on the Board of Regents in the 1930s. All of his aunts and uncles as well
as his brother either attended or graduated from MSU. His parents, James Paul Ison, Sr. and
Barbara Stamper Ison, are also proud MSU alumni.
