Delores M. Dorton

Richard (Dick) L. Dorton entered MSU the fall of 1957 with the dream and
goal of becoming an FBI agent. However, he did not graduate until
December 1969. Having decided to marry during his early years at
Morehead State, he needed to work to provide for his wife, Delores Mullins
Dorton ’58. He did work toward his degree as money and time would allow.
In 1960, he became a father and completing a degree was put on hold as he
worked full time to help provide for his children, Rebecca ’82, Richard ’89
and his wife. With the ultimate goal still to be achieved he returned over
those years to complete his degree.

Over these twelve years, Dick worked at a variety of jobs. Several these jobs
also helped him to reach his goal of being an FBI agent. He served as a
county deputy sheriff and a probation officer in Adams County, OH. With his
Comprehensive Social Studies degree in hand and the work experience
required, Dick applied and was accepted into the FBI Academy in January,
1970.

Over his twenty years of service to his country and law enforcement, he
received numerous citations from Directors of the FBI. His illustrious career in
undercover work won him praise and recognition from his superiors and
peers.

It is the family’s hope that this scholarship will assist other married students
as they strive to reach their goal of a college degree.
