Randy H. Greene

Randy Greene grew up in Elliott County, Kentucky, in a family that understood the transformative
power of education. His great-grandfather and great-grandmother were forward thinkers who, in the
early 1900s, when such decisions were uncommon, purchased a life insurance policy. Upon his great-
grandfather’s death, Randy’s great-grandmother made the deliberate and visionary choice to use the
proceeds to educate her three sons past high school. That decision shaped generations to come. Randy’s
father became a physician and spent his career serving the Sandy Hook community as a family
practitioner, while his mother dedicated her professional life to teaching.

Raised in a household where learning was both valued and prioritized, Randy knew early on that he
wanted to pursue a career in medicine. Driven and academically gifted, he was accepted to Morehead
State University without completing high school. Enrolling at MSU at just 16 years old, Randy received
special permission to study year-round and completed his degree in 1967 at the age of 19.

Though accepted to medical school at both the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville,
Randy felt drawn to experience another part of the country. Following the path of his older brother, he
enrolled at Loma Linda University School of Medicine in Loma Linda, California.

While at Loma Linda, Randy met his future wife, Judy. Their shared commitment to medicine and
service led them to build decades-long careers as radiologists, largely practicing in Oregon and
establishing deep roots in the western United States.

Randy and Judy raised two daughters, Lisa and Amy, born in 1977 and 1979. Continuing the family’s
strong legacy of academic and professional excellence, both daughters pursued careers in medicine, Lisa
as a dentist and Amy as an anesthesiologist.

In retirement, Randy and Judy initially lived in Vancouver, Washington and later in Henderson, Nevada.
Yet no matter where they lived, Kentucky always remained home to Randy. To honor his family’s legacy
and create opportunities for students from Eastern Kentucky, Randy and Judy established the Greene
Family Scholarship in 2021. Witnessing the scholarship’s early impact, they deepened their
philanthropic commitment, pledging to expand the fund to the $3 million dollar endowment level and
further solidify their family’s enduring legacy by naming the College of Science and Engineering in the
family’s honor.
