W. Terry McBrayer, a 1959 MSU graduate, was a lobbyist, attorney and public servant in
Kentucky, as well as recognized nationally in all 50 state capitols. He was a senior partner and
lead lobbyist for the widely recognized and respected McBrayer law firm. He founded McBrayer
PLLC and MML&K Government Solutions. McBrayer is a native of Greenup County and, in
addition to graduating from MSU, he received his law degree from the Brandeis School of Law
at the University of Louisville. He was elected to the MSU Alumni Hall of Fame in 1966 and
was awarded an honorary doctoral degree in 1975.

In 2018, he created the W. Terry McBrayer Presidential Lecture Series in Government and
Leadership as a way to support his alma mater. “I am very proud of the education that Morehead
State University provided me; I wanted to pay MSU and the students back. MSU was good to me
and assisted in launching my career. With the lecture series and scholarship, I think we are doing
just that,” said McBrayer. Additionally, a prior substantial contribution by Mr. McBrayer
established the ‘Presidential Scholarship Endowment’ within the MSU Foundation to address the
priorities of recruitment, retention and degree completion.
