Thomas A. Swain

This scholarship was created in memory of Tresia Swain. Starting out as a teacher, and then as
Principal of Rowan County Middle School for 15 years, Tresia aspired to excellence in her own
work, and expected this of all those under her leadership. It was Tresia’s belief that every child
should be provided all the resources necessary to thrive in a compassionate and uplifting
educational environment. The new state-of-the-art middle school facility, designed and
completed under her guidance in 2010, stands as a symbol of her deep, lifelong commitment to
public education.
